These days I'm developing a gcc/gdb Add-In for Visual Studio 2005 IDE. Using this Add-in you will be able to compile and debug your Unix projects using the feature rich Visual Studio IDE.

Most people use Visual Studio to edit their source code which are to be compiled / executed on Unix (Linux / SUN Solaris / etc..). As far as I know there is no tool which we can use to compile and debug the unix applications from Visual Studio. There is a good effort to make a IDE similar to Visual Studio called BVRDE. I am a huge fan of BVRDE. But most advanced features and Add-Ins which available for Visual Studio are not available on BVRDE. (Add-Ins such as Visual Assist) Therefore I decided to write an Add-In for Visual Studio IDE which can be used to compile and debug Unix applications & libraries.

How to write a Custom Debugger for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005

Microsoft Visual Studio is a highly extensible software platform. We can use Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 SDK to implement new features for Visual Studio 2005 IDE.

There are plenty of information on "How to write a Debugger" is available in the Microsoft MSDN website.
https://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb145316(VS.80).aspx

There is a complete example on how to write a debugger engine using ATL COM.
